The art of paper cutting has been around for thousands of years—originating in China in the Han Dynasty, then spreading throughout the world—from 18th-century French silhouette art to Mexican papel picado. There is a resurgence in the art form today as we've seen in the work of Liz Jaff and Megan Brain. Above is an installation piece by Los Angeles-based artist, Chris Natrop. His works on paper are spontaneously created without any preliminary sketches or drawings. We admire his stream-of-consciousness approach. Chris talks about his process here:
